The CEO of Scotland cricker Trudy Lindblade said that its council and cricket council in England and Wales (ECB) were discussing the creation of a united British cricket team for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
After 128 years, the cricket tournament in La28 will be described by the return of sport to the Olympics. The cricket last appeared at the Olympic Games in Paris 1900, where the UK defeated France of 158 runs in a one -time final after the Netherlands and Belgium withdrew.
At the beginning of this week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that the LA28 cricket program will include six team male and female T20 events, each team allowed to build a 15-member team.
The Los Angeles Olympics will take place from 14 July to July 30, 2028.
“We have a really good working relationship with the ECB, so we talked to them and in the process of establishing a GB cricket entity,” Lindblade BBC said.
England is currently second in the male T20 and third in women, while Scotland is not in any format in the top ten.
“This is what the British Olympic Association (BOA) requires to compete at the Olympic Games. It’s really interesting – with six teams in the competition we would have the opportunity through the GB concept.
“So, exciting times, and we will continue to connect with the ECB and our colleagues in La28 and ICC. It will be interesting.”
The ECB repeated this sentiment and reaffirmed its obligation on the ongoing discussions and emphasized the wider opportunity to promote cricket. “With England and Wales, in 2026 and 2030, La 2028 organized another great chance of growing the game and inspire a new audience,” Espncricinfo, a spokesman for Espncricinfo.
Athletes from the United Kingdom usually compete as part of the united GB team at the Olympics.
A remarkable exception is male football, where disagreements between British nations have prevented Britain in recent decades in recent decades, except for games in London 2012.
The British Olympic Association (BOA) hopes to build a united football team of men at 2028 games, the first from London 2012.
