Schools to remain closed today in Bhadradri Kothagudem district due to rain

Light to heavy rains lashed the central part of Bhadradri Kothagudem district, even as schools under all managements remained closed following the forecast of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in some parts of the district.

According to sources, Aswaraopeta mandal, bordering Andhra Pradesh, has received heavy rains in the last 24 hours. Peddavagu reservoir at Gummadivalli in Aswaraopeta mandal was receiving heavy inflows from upstream areas after which three of its gates were raised to release excess water downstream. The district administration declared a holiday for all schools for the second consecutive day on Thursday as a precautionary measure in view of the red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the district on September 24.
