When a heavy downpour threw several cities of India, schools and universities across these regions, they declared holidays for their students as preventive measures.
In Jamm and Kashmir, the recent cloudburst has triggered on Monday 18th August in several areas of lightning floods, which led to the closure of all government and private schools in Jammu.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rains in the region for the next two days – 18 and 19. August.
Jammu, however, is not the only city with 18 August school holiday.
Karnataka districts
Schools will remain closed in several Karnataka regions due to red IMD warning for heavy rains in Chikkamagalur and Shivamogg districts.
Deputy Commissioner Chikkamagalur Meen Nagaraj on Sunday announced a vacation for Anganwadis, elementary schools and secondary schools in Six Taluks on Monday, because these areas are expected to rain.
The holidays relate to schools in Koppa, Kalase, Mudigere, Sringeri and NR Pura Taluks, as well as schools based in Avatath, Jagara, Mulk, Aldur, Aldur, Aldur and Khandya Hoblis of Chikkamagalur Taluk.
The deputy commissioner of Shivamogg Gurudatt Hegade also announced a holiday for all schools and universities in the district on Monday.

Thrissur, Kerala
The collector of the district district of Thrissur announced a holiday for all educational institutions that include professional universities, 18th August, when heavy rains persist.
The order, issued as a preventive measure, applies to every educational institution, including CBSE, ICSE, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Anganwadis, Madrasas and Tuition.
The holidays apply to school level exams. The onam test, which was to be held today, was postponed and the new date will be announced soon.
Chandigar
In addition to the closure of schools and universities in several cities due to heavy rains, all educational institutions in Chandigarh are reportedly closed on Monday, August 18.
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria announced this holiday on August 15 during the 79th of Independence Day.
Although the administration did not provide a specific reason for the holiday, it merely stated that the holiday was led for the comfort of students and schools.
Academic and administrative activities will continue normal operation on Tuesday, August 19.
