The BMC order applies to all government, private and municipal schools and universities in the city and suburbs.
“The decision was taken as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of students and employees, due to the possibility of intensive downpours, waterlogging and disturbance,” BMC said in post X.
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) also announced a holiday for all types of schools, all media and all management, 18 August 2025 and 19 August 2025, quoted continuous rains.
The civic body wrote: “In the background of the ongoing heavy rainfall in the Thane district, the holiday of all media and all leadership in the Thane Municipal Corporation on 18 August 2025 and August 19, 2025 was declared for all types of schools.”
IMD Problems Red Warning
Meanwhile, the weather department released 24 hours in several districts of Maharahtra alert for red and orange. The state has been experiencing strong rainfall since the beginning of Monday morning.
Red warnings were issued in the area, including bombje, Raigad, Pune, Satara Ghat, Ratnagiri and Kolhapur Ghat. Several districts, including Palghar, Thane, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, CHHhatApati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Amravati, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, were warned.
BMC appealed to citizens to avoid the performance unless necessary. For any emergency or official information, residents are advised to address the auxiliary line of the BMC main control room in 1916.
Earlier Monday, Major Mahashtra Devendra Fadnavis said that Mumbai received 177 millimeters of rain at 6-8 hours, and others are expected all day along with high tides.
