School education department employee caught accepting ₹20,000 bribe in Hyderabad

A record assistant working in the school education department was caught by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau in Hyderabad on Monday (May 25) allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000.

The accused has been identified as S. Shivanand, recording assistant in the office of the Deputy Inspector of Schools, Government High School, Ameerpet Mandal.

According to the ACB, the official allegedly demanded a bribe from the complainant for processing and submitting the complainant’s mother’s pension benefit file to higher authorities and for processing the pension benefit statement.

Officials said the accused was caught red-handed by ACB City Range-II around 2 pm when he was allegedly accepting the bribe amount. The tainted money was recovered from his possession.

The ACB said the official allegedly performed his duties improperly and dishonestly to gain undue advantage.

The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the Chief Special Magistrate for SPE and ACB cases in Nampally for judicial remand. The case is under investigation.

The identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.

The ACB has urged the public to report bribe demands by civil servants through its toll-free number 1064, WhatsApp helpline and social media platforms.
