An easterly wind component is expected to keep the daytime heat and temperatures in check in most parts of Tamil Nadu till April 5, offering residents a respite from soaring temperatures. Meanwhile, parts of the Western Ghats and southern coastal districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to experience wet weather during this period.
The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has predicted light to moderate rainfall in the Western Ghats and adjoining districts and the south coast of Tamil Nadu. A trough in the east extending from Comorin region to north interior Karnataka via Tamil Nadu and wind discontinuity would affect such rainfall.
VR Durai, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, said that rain activity in neighboring states like Kerala will bring increased cloud cover to neighboring districts in the state. A dominant easterly wind component would also help keep maximum temperatures under control till Monday in most parts of the state.
On Monday, Karur Paramathi recorded the highest temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius in the state. Many locations recorded near normal or slightly below average maximum temperatures.
Although dry weather may continue in other places, including northern TN, the temperature in the northern interior may not rise further due to the prevailing weather conditions, he said. Only one or two places in the state may see temperatures two to three degrees Celsius above average till April 3.
Mr. Durai also noted that there is a possibility of scattered rainfall in some parts of the state next week as pre-monsoon showers, also called mango showers, occur. So far, the state has recorded a 4% excess rainfall this summer since March 1.
The RMC has predicted a maximum temperature of 34-35 degrees Celsius in Chennai on Tuesday.
