The report called ‘Bihar: Dalit Kya Chahte Hain’, which has prepared a group of civil rights, has made political parties a strong playground to deal with these “structural inequalities” in their manifesty.
“The story of Bihar will remain incomplete until Dalits gets his legitimate share of education, employment and dignity,” said Nacdaor Ashok Bharti, and added a plan for inclusive development.
According to the Bihar Caste 2023 survey, the planned caste represents 19.65% of the 13.07 crore population of the state – from 15.9% in 2011 – Bihar Homes are 8.5% of the overall Indian population of the planned Caste community. Six caste – nitadhs, ravidas/chamars, Mushar, PASI, DHOBI and BHUIYA – represent 90% of the state planned caste, says the report.
Atrocities, everyday matter
The report records 85,684 cases of atrocities against the planned caste between 2010 and 2022 or about 17 incidents a day.
Only 55.9%of the planned caste is 66.1%compared to the national community average, while female literacy is only 43.4%, reported. “Education remains the most decisive factor in strengthening position, but Dalits in Bihar remains behind,” the study says. In higher education, only 5.7% of students and 5.6% of the faculty are the planned caste community, she added.
Economically, 84% of planned caste households are without land and only 1.3% hold government jobs. Their average monthly income – 6,480 GBP – is 40% below the state average.
