SBI team summons Telangana chief secretary amid dispute over Raidurgam Knowledge City land
The State Bank of India (SBI) seems to have initiated steps to appease the Telangana government over the controversy that has arisen over the disputed land.
A delegation of senior SBI officials led by an officer of the rank of Chief General Manager called on Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao at the Secretariat on Monday. Although the details of what transpired in the 30-minute meeting are yet to be known, the talks centered on a 5.09-acre plot in Raidurgam Knowledge City, which has become a bone of contention between the two parties.
While the government put the land up for auction, SBI challenged the decision in the High Court, leading to controversy.
The state government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has taken serious notice of SBI’s move to file legal action and is exploring various options including withdrawal of government transactions from the largest public sector bank. Sensing scope for the matter to flare up into a major controversy, the SBI delegation called on the Chief Secretary and held discussions on the issue. The chief secretary is understood to have communicated the government’s position to the SBI delegation in uncertain terms.
Interestingly, the Chief Secretary has gone to New Delhi to join the Chief Minister in pleading the state’s case before Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and senior officials. The state government is upset with the development as it has reportedly offered another plot to a public sector bank, but the bank has preferred a legal solution.
