Indian pairs of men, Satwiksairaj Ranlreddy and Chirag Shetty, entered the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 with a hard combat return on Thursday. PV Sindu, however, collapsed in the second round after losing a hard match with three games in Jakarta.
Satwik and Chirag, champions 2023 in Jakarta, presented 16 Rasmus Kjaer and Frederik Sogaard 16-21, 21-18, 22-20, 22-20. The Indian duo, which last week reached the Singapore Open Super 750, remains the only Indian challenges to remain in the draw.
A pair of world no. 3 will now face the Malaysian Seventh Semen Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee for a place in the semifinals.
Satwik and Chirag returned from the injury and were under pressure soon under the pressure of the aggressive Danish combination that controlled the net and dictated the pace in the opening game. Although the Indians showed resistance by gathering from 6-10 to the score of 10-all, the Danish couple kept their nerves and regained control to participate in the opening game.
The second game recorded a stricter competition, when Satwik and Chirag pushed the game deep and enforced mistakes. At 14-all, the Indians climbed with five consecutive points and kept to force the referee.
The third game was a nerve test. The Indians fired at 5-1 leadership, but Kjaer and Sogaard gathered with sharp wiretaps at 8-all level. The neck and neck remained until the end, while the Danes earned the match point at 20-19. But Chirag’s aggressive return attracted parity and brilliant portions followed by Satwik’s sharp placement at the point of the match -sealed victory – the fist pump and roar from the Indian camp.
At the beginning of the day, the PV Sindhu offer for a deep run by disappointment. The double Olympic medalist wasted the leadership of 15-11 in the referee to go down 22-20, 10-21, 18-21 against the World World Council No. 8 Pornapwee Chochuwong in the marathon 78-minute meeting.
Sindhu returned from 10-16 in the opening game to catch it 22-20, but Chochuwong dictated the terms in the second. In the final game, Sindhu looked under control and led 15-11, just to start at the finish line with a number of mistaken and unforced errors.
“I think I was supposed to convert it to victory,” Sindu said after a loss. “In the third set I led 16-13, but the conditions were faster and I had to control much more. From there it took the lead that it was a game that was at 18.
Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya varieath lost 7-21, 12-21 in just 25 minutes by Thai sixth seeds Brazapol Puavarankroh and Supissar Paewsampran in mixed doubles. Women’s pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Trees Jolly showed a promise, but did not reach the Japanese Yuki Fukushima and Maya Matsumoto, lost 13-21, 22-24 in 46 minutes.
Now that only satwik and Chirag are flying in Jakarta, all the eyes of men will be chased by the second Indonesia open title.
