Satheesan, Vishnunadh, MPs from Kerala join the protest

Even as the crackdown on the Cockroach Janta Party protest in Delhi continued for a second day on Tuesday, Chief Minister VD Satheesan, Tourism Minister PC Vishnunadh and MPs Dean Kuriakose and Kodikunnil Suresh joined the Congress protest outside the Prime Minister’s Lok Kalyan Marg residence.

In his Facebook post, Mr. Satheesan said the time has come for the country to stand united. “Youth and students who are the hope of the country were brutally attacked in the state capital. A march was organized to protest against this to the Prime Minister’s residence. Kerala Chief Minister and MPs from Kerala are participating in this march along with Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar,” he said.

A delegation of Left MPs also took out a solidarity march to Jantar Mantar in support of the students’ demands and against the alleged police brutality against the CJP protesters. CPI MPs P. Sandosh Kumar, K. Subbarayan and PP Suneer; CPI(M) MPs Amra Ram, John Brittas, K. Radhakrishnan, V. Sivadasan, AA Rahim and R. Sachidanandam; and KC(M) MP Jose K. Mani expressed solidarity with the protesting students and condemned the alleged violence by the Delhi Police.

According to Mr. Kuriakos, the police brutally assaulted him inside a police vehicle. There were also reports of officers being taken away in police vans without being told where they were being taken.

Mr. Vishnunadh was allegedly dragged into a police vehicle by the police. Congress officials alleged that the police ignored his repeated statements that he was a minister.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has announced that the party will hold a nationwide protest in all district headquarters on Wednesday evening against the police excesses against the minister and MPs from Kerala.

KPCC president Sunny Joseph condemned the police action and said elected representatives have the right to protest on public issues. According to him, attempts to suppress them by force were unacceptable.
