The leader of the opposition VD Satheesen accused the left democratic front (LDF) of gross negligence in the healthcare sector and demanded resignation of Minister of Health Veena George after a tragic incident in Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital, where a woman lost life after the building.
Sateesan, who addressed the media in Chalakudy on Saturday, claimed that only two ministers arrived on the scene instead of coordination of rescue efforts to give speeches, which further delayed the critical response. “The ministers claimed that the building was sealed and that no one was inside. The rescue operations began only after the Chanda Oommen intervention, MLA,” he said.
Mr. Satheesan remembered how during the Covid-19 crisis, the leaders of Congress as VK Sreekandan and Shafi Parambil tried to help migrating workers with essentials such as drinking water, just to be marked “MARXIST”) (CPI). “Who really fits now?” he asked.
Mr. Satheesen claimed that the entire health system is on the fan and the Minister of Health becomes guilty of the public. “He repeatedly makes mistakes, yet the party protects it. Even doctors and officials admit the truth in accordance with the left,” he said, demanding her immediate resignation.
“The PR apparator is working overtime to protect the government. However, we will issue any act of negligence and corruption in health care,” Satheesan said.
Portable disease
He stressed the deteriorating state of public hospitals and pointed out that Kerala is now leading the country in portable diseases, but lacks basic drugs and surgical equipment to government hospitals. The government is reported to only owe only 1,100 GBP of Crore to Kerala Medical Services Corporation.
“In places like Kozhikode and Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, patients are forced to carry scissors, thread and cotton to hospitals,” he added.
“The health sector is in ruins and people pay the price for arrogance and incompetence of the government,” said opposition leader. “Minister of Health must take responsibility and withdraw. This is no longer a political demand, but a moral necessity.”
