Satadru Dutta, who was behind Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi’s GOAT tour to India, on Monday finally broke his silence on the mismanagement that took place at the Salt Lake Stadium on December 13, 2025. Known as a sports promoter and avid football fan, Dutta has been linked with bringing goalkeepers like Maralnadad Diego, Cafu and Emiliano into the team over the years.
It was certainly a dream moment for the fans in Kolkata. Touted as the long-awaited chance to see Messi live, The GOAT Tour of India 2025 became the center of excitement for thousands of fans who bought tickets at very affordable prices (from approx. ₹4000) just to catch a glimpse of their star that they watched growing up on TV.

Entering the iconic Salt Lake Stadium, Messi was “unhappy” at the mismanagement, he said mint alive first – and then questioned the role of Bengal Sports Minister Arup Biswas. In fact, Biswas was seen accompanying Messi and was also accused of using his influence to facilitate unregistered entries into the stadium.
Messi’s sudden departure angered the fans, leading to utter chaos. Angry fans turned to violence as they damaged stadium property. Messi, Suarez and De Paul left the stadium within 25 minutes of what was originally an hour-long event. Dutta was detained at the Kolkata airport hours later as he was leaving for Hyderabad – Messi’s second destination of the day.
