Sarvesh Kushare broke the national record in the high jump and booked a place in the Asian Games

Sarvesh Kushare made history in Indian athletics after breaking the men’s high jump national record with a stunning clearance of 2.31m at the 65th National Senior Interstate Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, June 27.

The 31-year-old produced the performance of his life to win the gold medal while also breaking Tejaswin Shankar’s long-standing national record of 2.29m, which stood since April 2018. Kushar’s effort also comfortably cleared the Athletics Federation of India’s qualification standard for the 2026 Asian continental showpiece and confirmed his place on the Indian continent.

The athlete from Maharashtra looked in complete control throughout the competition before soaring through 2.31m on a memorable evening at the Kalinga Stadium. He then attempted 2.35m but failed to clear the bar, although his record jump had already secured his place in the history books.
