In a disturbing case of alleged animal cruelty, nearly 100 stray dogs were allegedly killed in Thummaipally village in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district earlier this week, as reported by ANI.
The large-scale killing sparked widespread outrage among residents and animal rights activists, prompting Mudavath Preethi, a cruelty prevention assistant at the Stray Animal Foundation of India, to lodge a formal complaint with the Charapaka police station, ANI reported.
The incident reportedly took place in a village under the Sarpanch’s jurisdiction. According to the FIR, the police received a complaint from Mudavath Preethi, a resident of Nagarkurnool, on January 27.
In her petition, the petitioner said that as an Assistant Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, she received information that around 100 stray dogs were killed by giving poisonous injections in the last 10 days, ANI reported.
The sarpanch and panchayat secretary of Thimmaipally village are said to have carried out these actions.
Further investigation revealed that Gram Panchayat (GP) worker Ravi allegedly removed the dead bodies. In a separate conversation between Adukapuram Goutham and Gopi (hired person), Gopi said that the dogs were poisoned during the previous 10 days, ANI reported.
The Sarpanch further said that the bodies were disposed of around 2 km from the village. Based on these findings, the petitioner requested immediate legal action against the accused natural persons in accordance with the law.
Animal rights activist Goutham condemned the incident and demanded strict action against those involved and called for stronger enforcement of animal welfare laws to prevent similar acts of cruelty in the future.
