
A candidate in the fray for the post of sarpanch in Chenjerla Manakondur mandal village and three others have been booked for allegedly printing fake “model ballot papers” and distributing them in an attempt to mislead voters, police said.
Based on a complaint filed by the concerned Nodal Officer, the Manakondur police registered a case against Gaddi Renuk, a sarpanch candidate, Gaddi Ganesh, Aditya and a Karimnagar-based private printing press owner for allegedly violating the model code of conduct for Gram Panchayat elections.
According to sources, the accused deliberately tried to mislead the voters by printing fake ‘model ballot papers’ with wrong serial number of the candidate in the fray and distributing fake papers among a section of villagers with ulterior motive.
Meanwhile, Choppadandi police seized liquor bottles worth around ₹49,920 from a motorcycle-borne couple identified as Kanakaraju and Madhukar during a vehicle check at Arnakonda village on Monday evening.
Kanakaraju’s wife is running for the post of sarpanch, police said.
The duo has been booked and further investigations are underway.
In a separate incident, two persons, including Jada Anjaiah, a candidate for ward number 2 in Cherlabuthkur gram panchayat of Karimnagar rural mandal, were caught by the election air squad allegedly distributing liquor bottles to voters in a village full of polling booths on Monday night.
Proceedings were initiated against them for violating the model code of conduct.
Police have beefed up security in the villages, which are gearing up for gram panchayat elections in the first phase on December 11.
