Sapna Book House, a leading brand in book publishing and sales, marked a major milestone by launching 70 Kannada titles at its Mysuru branch and several cities in Karnataka on December 27.
Writer and critic Pradhan Gurudutt said at the event that the publishing house has rendered serf service to the cause of Kannada literature for several decades.
“Very few institutions can match its sustained output. What it does more is the promotion of literature rather than the business of publishing and selling. It is known for the quality of its books,” he added.
Publishing and marketing 70 books simultaneously is no small feat, as it requires complex logistics including coordination with authors, editors, printers and distributors. “Such an exercise itself reflects the institutional strength and commitment of the publishers,” Mr. Gurudutt said.
A release published by Sapna Book House states that 70 Kannada titles, spanning all major genres, were released to commemorate the 70th Karnataka Rajyotsava. The books contain the works of older and younger writers, both established and new, from various parts of the state.
Sapna Book House has contributed significantly to the growth of the Kannada book industry by publishing a large number of representative works, felicitating writers and offering special discounts on Kannada books every November Rajyotsava season, the release said.
She quoted older literati to point out that few institutions in India dared to publish so many books in any single language at once.
The initiative aims to make books in all fields of knowledge easily accessible to Kannadigas, thereby helping to strengthen Kannada as a language of everyday life, the report said.
As part of Rajyotsava celebrations, Kannada books were sold at discounted prices at all 24 Sapna Book House outlets across Karnataka during November and the current program was organized to formally honor authors by launching their works, according to the publisher.
She said the event was special as 70 books were launched simultaneously across all branches of Sapna Book House, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hassan and Davangere, which she said underscored the nationwide scope of the initiative.
TV Venkatachala Sastry, Scientist, Maddikere Gopal, President of Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Parishat and others were present.
