The writers E. Santhosh Kumar, Santhosh Echikkanam and Shafi Poovathinkal won the literary prizes of OV Vijayan Memorial Awards 2024.
While Mr. Santhosh Kumar won the Jnanabharam award, Mr. Echikkanam won the Kavan Anthology Anthology. Mr. Poovathinkal won the prize for the unpublished story of a young writer for his work called Raqeebinum Atheedinum Idayile Nunakal.
OV Vijayan Smaraka Samiti said the Minister of TR Ajayan here on Saturday that the awards were selected by a strict screening of more than 200 writers. “We had more than 200 works of different writers sent by different publishers and so many proposals and recommendations established by writers. We had a mega jury of 20 writers who projected and included a strict process in short work,” Mr. Ajayan said.
Members of the jury Rajesh Menon, Pr Jayseelan and Manoj Veetkikkad said they thoroughly evaluated works with maximum care for choosing the most comfortable for the price.
The awards for the novel and the collection of short stories will include a plaque, quote and a cash price of 25,000 GBP. The price for an unpublished story of a young writer will have a cash price of 10,000 GBP along with plaque and citations.
Mr. Rajesh Menon said that despite the modest monetary benefits, the Young Writer Award is of great importance due to its connection with the renowned author of OV Vijayana.
The festive distribution of prices, scheduled for 18 May, can be postponed due to the growing tension along the national borders, said Mr. Ajayan.
