The former Indian cricket Kris Srikkanth killed selectors for not choosing Sanju Samson on the upcoming Australia in the ODI team. BCCi (Council for cricket control in India) introduced a group for three ODIs and five T20is against Australia, which started on October 19.
While Samson retained his place on the T20i side, it was expected that Rishabh Pant’s exclusion was also expelled on the ODI side. However, the selectors showed the belief in Dhruv Jurela and picked him up as a backup goalkeeper to Kl rahul. Srikkanth described the exclusion as “very unfair” He stressed that Samson scored a century in his last ODI performance against South Africa in 2023.
“Again, very unfair. Sanja should be there, since he scored a century in his last ODI. So every day the reason for change is constantly shifting for each individual. One day he is a bat at 5, then the next day you send it in the first reworking.
Srikkanth further criticized the selection committee for its inconsistent policy, suggesting that such decisions to confuse players and undermine their trust.
“By constantly performing such selections, confusing the players themselves. Although we are not sure every day the choice will be. Suddenly Yashasvi Jaiswal is there, and then the next minute will not be there.
Samson recorded 510 runs in his career ODI so far from 14 shifts on average 56.66 and a strike rate of 99.60 with a hundred and three 1950s. His last performance in the 50-over format came in 2023 against South Africa, where he played shifts 108 (114) to help India win the series by 2-1.
Meanwhile, Samson sealed his place on the Indian side of the T20i, after his star show at the top of the order when he killed three centuries and opened shifts. But he was pushing down the order with the return of SHUBMAN GILL to set up the T20i, where he was seen to fight in Asia Cup 2025.
