Former Indian cricket Sanjay Manjrekar said he was shocked from reports indicating that Jasprit Bumrah was not a pioneer to become another Indian test captain. In a heavily formulated X (formerly Twitter) post, Manjrekar asked why selectors were considering alternatives to a star stimulator. “I am shocked that we are looking at any other option than Bumhrah as a test captain! I’m worried about his injury? Then carefully choose your vice-capitan,” Manjrekar wrote.

Manjrekar’s remarks come in the middle of growing speculation that ODI Vice President of SHUBMAN GILL is considered to be the leading candidate for the successor of Rohit Sharma, which is expected to leave the longest format soon.
Bumrah, which served as a more captain during the Border-Gavascar trophy 2024-25 trophy, led India in the first and fifth tests. His Stint, however, was interrupted by the injury of the rear stress, which forced him in the middle of the last match in Sydney. The non -maintenance maintained him out of his activity for more than three months, and he was concerned about his long -term condition, especially due to the physical requirements of fast bowling.
Despite these concerns Manjrekar believes that Bumhrah remains the most comfortable candidate in India. He is not alone in this evaluation. Formerly former India captain Sunil Gavascar also approved BumhrahThis suggests that the added responsibility could actually help Pacer to manage its workload more efficiently.
The former main voter of India MSK Prasad also rejected concern Despite Jasprit Bumhrah’s condition and called on the selection commission to name him by the captain for England’s tests
While Bumrah has strong support for fans and scientists for his ability to win a match and a sharp cricket mind, BCCI selectionists are reportedly stepping carefully. His history of recurring back injuries, especially stress fractures, is a significant risk. With the exhausting nature of the test cricket-especially on overseas tours, its longevity could be seriously affected.
Other names in rivalry include Kl Rahul, who sometimes led India and is currently in good shape. At the age of 33 he could serve as a temporary leader and gave the team time for the groom of the long -term successor.
Meanwhile, SHUBMAN GILL candidacy continues to gain momentum, not only for its field performance, but also for its growing brand value. Many consider it to be a natural successor Virat Kohli in terms of charisms and marketability, which makes him an essential figure in the future of the Indian cricket.
Rishabh Pant is another candidate. The proven winner winner in the format, his prospects can depend on his relationship with the head coach Gautam Gambhir.
The series of five tests begins with 20 June in Headingley, referring to the beginning of the new test of the World Test Championship and a new chapter for India without Rohit Sharma, Virt Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin.
