The state government granted a sanction for four regional sanitary waste combustion facilities, each with a capacity of 20 tonnes a day (TPD) in different districts. The project is to be implemented by Clean Kerala Company according to the public and private partnership (PPP), with technical support providing the Taricitewa mission.
Plants are proposed to be established in Kottarakara in Kollam district, Muvttupuzha in the district of Ernakulam, Kuttippuram in the Malappuram district and Kadannappalli in the Kannur district. According to the design, 50 cents of land is set in each place. The government has ordered Clean Kerala Limited to take over the land settled for each facility, and also authorized to launch a selection process for projects.
Plants are established in various regions to address a gap in the current decentralized system of hygiene waste, ensure centralized processing, improve savings from the extent and achieve better logistics efficiency. A specialized technical and monitoring committee, headed by Missionwa Missionwa Executive Director, was created to ensure early implementation, transparent contract and effective project monitoring. The Committee will supervise the planning, contract and implementation activities related to the establishment of the proposed equipment.
The Minister of Local MB Rajesh recently said that the government would set up enough plants throughout the state over the next six months to deal with the assembly problem of sanitary waste. The treatment of hygiene waste, including diapers and condoms, was one of the main challenges for the local authorities in the state because mechanisms for solving all other types of waste are introduced. At the beginning of this week, the municipalities opened the Warkala in Thiruvananthapurama to process a sanitary waste with a capacity to process 5 tonnes of waste a day.
