Samsung shared video teasing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in its local virtual assistant Bixby on Monday. While the Korean tech giant didn’t mention Bixby directly, it showed a woman speaking on her device and asking it to perform multiple tasks, which is how Bixby works. Last year, the company released the AI-powered Bixby in China through the Galaxy W25 series. There are now rumors that the AI Assistant will arrive globally with the Galaxy S25 series, which will debut on January 22 at the Galaxy Untake Event.
Samsung mocks AI-powered Bixby Assistant
In a 17-second video posted on YouTube, the tech giant has glimpsed what users expect from the next generation of Bixby. The video, titled “Real AI companion is coming”, shows a woman talking on her device. She told the device in a conversational tone that “find a cat-friendly Italian restaurant with outdoor seating”. She also told the device to send it to a friend and add it to her calendar.
Interestingly, throughout the video, there is no place where there is no Samsung’s name to remove bixby or showcase any AI features that may be integrated into it. However, some features are still easy to point out. First, it seems that AI-powered Bixby is able to understand natural language commands and can handle multiple tasks at once.
It also seems to integrate better with third-party apps, as it can make restaurant reservations and add them to the calendar app. Additionally, it may also have proxy functionality if you can book. None of these features are confirmed and are only hinted in the video.
Samsung revealed that the Chinese version of AI-powered Bixby has a better understanding of the context behind the command. It can also respond with text and videos obtained from the network to share the most relevant information. In addition, the virtual assistant can translate web pages and save the generated output in different Microsoft Office file formats (such as Word, PPT, etc.).
China’s AI-powered Bixby also received a redesigned interface. Virtual Assistant can be turned on in full screen mode in text fields at the bottom and in a minimal layout with a white background. Its usual popups can also be summoned on any other screen and on any app.
