Samsung India trains 200 women in tailoring to promote sustainable livelihoods in Sriperumbudur

Samsung India is helping women from Santhavallur and Sirumangadu villages near its Sriperumbudur facility to build sustainable livelihoods through a tailoring training programme.

About 200 women from these villages will undergo two months of practical tailoring training. The program combines practical sewing skills with basic business advice. After completing the course, each participant will receive a sewing machine that will allow her to immediately start working from home or start a small tailoring business within her community.

“Many of the women joined the program with little or no formal tailoring experience. Today they are confidently sewing garments, taking customer orders and thinking about how to build a steady income,” said K. Kumari, tailoring trainer for the program at Santhavall.

A. Divya from Santhavalur, who hopes to contribute to her family’s income through tailoring, said, “I always wanted to learn a skill that would help support my family. This training gave me the confidence to start working from home and with the sewing machine I can start immediately.”

For R Nandhini from Sirumangad, the program opened the door to a more independent future. “This training has shown me that I can build a livelihood with my own skills. I hope that with the sewing machine I received, I will start taking tailoring jobs in my village, contributing to my household income and encouraging other women to become financially independent,” she added.

The company also enables young students to learn STEM through its DigiArivu program in Ranipet and Kancheepuram. Across the state, the company also supports school and college students through Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, develops future technology talent through Samsung Innovation Campus and equips young people with industry-ready retail and technical services skills through Samsung DOST.
