Australian captain Pat Cummins took time to publicly back the young opener Sam Constas and strengthened the faith of the leading group in a growing talent, despite the modest beginning of his testing career.
Sam Constas made an impressive test debut against India and in his first shifts he scored 60 out of 65 balls. Since then, the 19-year-old has fought for consistency, with a score of 8, 23, 22, 3, 5, 25 and 0 in his next seven shifts. In the ongoing series of tests with three matches in West Indies, the Constas won only 33 runs in four shifts, an average of 8.25.
In the first two tests, the constelment crossed the 50-run brand, although Australia in the second match threw a 133-running victory in the second match to close the 2-0 leadership in a series of three matches against West India. A twenty-year-old man showed flashes promise during his early trips in Trophy Border-Gavascar, but in this series he did not completely shine the result table.
However, Cummins notes explained one thing after the match: the dressing rooms are firmly behind the young body.
“Look, he was good,” Cummins said as he asked the constraint. “I think you are chosen for anyone who begins your test career for some reason that we know that it is good enough.”
It was a clear news from Captain – the selection for Baggy Green is not a coincidence, and success in the international cricket requires patience, both from the player and from the people around him.
Cummins, who tolerated the rock beginning of his own trial path for injuries, empathized into mental challenges when he tried to prove at the highest level.
“For someone like a dough, it might be where your scoring areas are, what pace you normally work best – and don’t get too much to catch in all shifts that feel like the biggest thing in the world,” he said.
In the high -pressure environment of the test cricket – especially at the age of social media – Cummins’ ground perspective is used as early assurances for Constas and other newcomers who are still looking for their feet.
The Australian captain also reminded everyone that even the size passed through slim spots: “Even the best dough in the world did not affect their average three times.”
