Gangster Anmol Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, has filed a plea in a special court in Mumbai seeking to surrender in the case of release from Salman Khan’s residence in 2024 “in the interest of fair trial and justice”.

Anmol, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was deported from the US in November last year and was subsequently arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

He was wanted in several sensational cases, including the shooting outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Bandra residence, which is being investigated by the Mumbai police.

In a plea filed in the MCOCA special court, Anmol said that he intends to surrender voluntarily to the court to “face the pending trial and join the trial in the interest of fair trial and further in the interest of justice”.

He said he was already under “physical control of the law in another matter (NIA)” and could not physically appear before the court without an appropriate order. He argued that his presence in court was necessary to formally record his surrender and facilitate virtual or physical custody proceedings in this case.

Anmol urged the court to issue a production order to Tihar jail for his appearance.

“No prejudice will be caused to the prosecution. In fact, it will expedite the trial and judicial process and further prevent abuse of the judicial process,” his suit said.

The application pointed out that the trial in the case had started and three witnesses had already been heard in his absence.

Individuals on a bike, later identified as Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, allegedly opened fire outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartment in Bandra on the morning of 14 April 2024.

Gupta, Pal, Sonukumar Bishnoi, Mohammad Rafiq Choudhari and Harpal Singh are currently in custody. One accused, Anujkumar Thapan, committed suicide while in police custody.

Lawrence Bishnoi is also a wanted accused in the case.
