Sakambari Utsavam concludes Maha Poornahuti at Kanaka Durga Temple

The three-day Sakambari Utsavams at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri ended with Maha Poornahuti on Wednesday on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, marking the culmination of elaborate Vedic rituals that attracted an estimated 2.5 million devotees.

On the last day, devotees had darshan of Goddess Sri Kanaka Durga in the avatar of Sakambari Devi. The deity was decorated with an array of fruits, leafy greens, vegetables and dry fruits, transforming the shrine and temple premises into a vibrant display of devotion.

The concluding rituals, including Maha Poornahuti, Kalasodvasana, Marjanam and Prokshanam, were performed under the guidance of temple Sthanacharya V. Shivaprasad Sharma, members of the Vedic Committee, Vedic scholars and temple priests.

As part of the celebrations, the temple distributed free Kadambam prasadam prepared from the vegetables offered during the festival to the devotees. A large number of pilgrims also participated in the traditional Giri Pradakshina around the Indrakeeladri hill.

Temple Trust chairman Borra Radhakrishna and managing director VK Seena Naik said around 45 tonnes of vegetables, fruits, leafy vegetables and dry fruits donated by farmers and devotees were used to decorate the shrine, sub-shrines and temple premises during the festival.

They said special prayers were offered for timely rains, bountiful harvest, welfare of farmers and peace and prosperity in the state and country. The festival symbolizes gratitude to nature and invokes the blessings of goddess Sakambari, who is worshiped as the provider of food and nourishment, they added.

Mr. Naik said about 2.5 lakh devotees visited the temple during the three-day festival. The temple administration has made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth darshan and provide basic amenities to the pilgrims.
