The Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Saha said on Tuesday that his government took the necessary measures in response to the construction of a massive Bangladeshi government along the border in the South Tripura district.
Bangladesh built a waterfront in Kalikapur on the banks of the Muhuri River susceptible to a flood that leads along the boundary of India-Bangladesh in the South Tripura district. The State Secretary of PWD Kiran Gitte visited the area after the local elected representatives raised concerns about the floods in Belonia, Ballam and Amjadnagar.
The flood and landslides of the soil August 2024, which damaged many river waterfronts along the Bangladeshi border, also stimulated concerns about the inhabitants.
The Minister assured that the situation was carefully monitored and given by the highest priority.
Mr. Gitte said that the government plans to build a dam on the banks of the river as countermeasures to protect the low -laid areas of Belonia, which is also the district seat of South Tripura.
The main minister stated that the measures are also taken against the “obstacles” created by Bangladesh (BGB) border guards, which stopped the maintenance of the dam in the Unakoti district in Kailashhar. Maintenance of the dam in front of Monsoon on the banks of the Manu River was stopped for objections from BGB. The flood department recently began to repair work, but could not continue due to protests from Bangladesh.
