Andhra Pradesh Minister for Empowerment and NRI Relations Kondapalli Srinivas has assured that the safety and welfare of the Telugu people stranded in the Gulf countries amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran remains the top priority of the state government.
Participating in a Zoom conference organized by the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) with APNRT coordinators from the Gulf countries on Tuesday, Mr. Srinivas reviewed the situation on the ground and issued key instructions to extend full support to the affected expatriates. He said that the state government in coordination with the Center is taking comprehensive steps to protect the workers, students, employees and tourists affected by the crisis.
Coordinators from Dubai, Sharjah, Doha, Jeddah and other places informed the minister that although media reports have raised concerns, the situation on the ground is not as alarming as it was supposed to be. They noted that governments in the region have launched precautionary measures, including sounding sirens and issuing regular warnings.
Some concern has been reported in Bahrain, but places like Dubai and Kuwait remain largely stable, they said. Authorities are facilitating the movement of passengers through major airports, they said, adding that there is no shortage of food, drinking water or accommodation.
Mr. Srinivas urged all Telugus in the affected areas to register with APNRT and respective Indian embassies. He warned that flight cancellations were due to airspace restrictions and advised people to remain patient until conditions stabilised.
The Minister said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is continuously monitoring the situation through APNRT and RTGS systems and directed officials to ensure timely assistance.
Referring to the services provided during the COVID-19 pandemic, the coordinators reiterated their readiness to help during the current crisis. APNRT President Ravi Kumar Vemuru and other officials attended the virtual meeting.
