“Sabse pehle maine…”: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s first reaction after getting the India cap
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (BCCI Photo) NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s dream came true on Saturday as the 15-year-old received his India debut cap ahead of the second T20I against England at Old Trafford in Manchester.The left-arm opener created history by becoming India’s youngest international cricketer at 15 years and 99 days, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record.

Before the start of the match, Indian batsman Tilak Varma presented Sooryavanshi with his debut cap and congratulated the teenager on the special occasion.“Congratulations. ‘dream about it’
After receiving his debut cap, an emotional Sooryavanshi said that playing for India was always his biggest dream.“It feels very good. It was a dream. Playing for India is the best for anyone. Anyone who takes up cricket to play international cricket and represent their country is a very proud moment,” Sooryavanshi said in a video released by the BCCI.
“I told my father first”
The Bihar youngster revealed that his father was the first person he informed after learning that he would be making his India debut.“First I told my father in Jakar’s room. He called him Jakar. He lives with me. I told him first of all. And I didn’t talk to anyone. And also my master is Romi (Bhinder) sir and mummy. I mean I told everyone who lives with me. But I told my father first.”Sooryavanshi also shared a message he received from his father before entering the field.“Dad was happy and said do what you’re doing now. There’s no pressure, you’ve just got to back your game.”
A record debut
The teenager from Bihar earned his first India call-up after a sensational IPL 2026 season and was picked in the T20I squads for the tour of Ireland and England as well as the Asian Games.On his debut in Manchester, Sooryavanshi broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become India’s youngest international cricketer. Overall, he is the second youngest player from a full member country to make his debut in international cricket, behind Pakistan’s Hasan Raza.Sooryavanshi started on the offensive, scoring 14 runs off 10 balls with two sixes.He made his mark by hitting Jofra Archer for a six over the keeper’s head before smashing another maximum from Josh Tongue.His innings ended in the fifth over when he went down the track against Will Jacks but was beaten by the flight of the ball. Jos Buttler completed the stumping to end the teenager’s entertaining knock.
