Former Australian Captain Shane Watson urged fans and scientists to stay patient with Routurai Gaikwad and say Captain Chennai Super Kings will develop over time and experience into a much better leader. The former CSK opener supported Ruturai to invent his own identity in the Super Kings settings.
Watson’s remarks come at a time when CSK had a challenging beginning of his IPL 2025 campaign when he lost three of his first four games.
During the interaction organized by Si -Tar, Watson said that while Ruturaj is still in the early stages of his leadership, he is constantly learning how to integrate the leadership of legendary people, such as Mrs. Dhoni and Stephen Fleming, into his own captain.
Ruturaj Gaikwad came under control for several controversial decisions in the field this season. While he was granted some freedom in 2024, since it was his debut season as a captain after taking over the bracelet, expectations increased this year.

“Look, first, as far as Ruturai’s captain is concerned, this role is still relatively young and he would learn a lot from last season. Dhoni, one of the biggest captains the game has ever seen,” Watson said.

“The learning environment for Ruturai could not have been better. But it is not until you are on Wednesday, that you really start to think of everything. It would take at least a year to navigate how to get the best of yourself to apply the information and knowledge it has and how to rely on MS when needed or at the fair or at the fair.
“Having these sources is massive, but it takes time to learn how to make the most of them. From what I have seen, it only improves and improves. It continues to learn, and that is the kind of person who is routurai. The more experience he gets, the more he grows,” he added.
CSK decisions are not made alone: Watson
One of the key areas where Ruturaj faced criticism is his treatment of CSKho renowned spin arsenal. In each of his four matches this season he tried to use a total 20-over quota between his three first-class spinners. Even in domestic conditions friendly to the company, Gaikwad seemingly incorrectly calculated the deployment of his pitch.
Watson, however, defended the young captain, suggesting that such tactical decisions are not isolated, but often the result of collective entrances from the team management group.
“As for how he can do it, especially in matches where he had to use his full spinner quota-it will always be interesting, especially at home in Chennai when the ball turns. But because the captain is not isolated.
“Yes, they will make the last challenge on the pitch, but it is more of a collective decision-and spinners are already giving away or turning to fast.
CSK will try to get its IPL 2025 campaign back to the track when Kings in Mullanpur in Mullanpur is facing on Tuesday 8 March.
