Russian President Vladimir Putin said there was no need to use nuclear weapons in the conflict of Ukraine and that he hopes that such a moment will never come.
“There is no need to use these (nuclear) weapons … and I hope they will not be necessary,” Putin said in a new state television film broadcast on Sunday, and marked his 25 years in power.
It insisted that Russia has the ability to end the war according to its conditions. “We have sufficient strength and means to bring what started in 2022 to a logical conclusion with the result that Russia requires,” he said.
In November 2024, Putin signed an improved version of the Russian nuclear doctrine that reduces the threshold for use, allowing reaction to conventional attacks if supported by nuclear energy.
“The country was not prepared in 2014,” says Putin
Putin also dealt with Russia’s decision to fully attach Ukraine to Ukraine after the connection of Crimea and at that time “practically unrealistic” called a great military move.
“The country was not prepared for such a frontal confrontation with the whole collective West,” he said.
Despite the start of the invasion in 2022, Putin claimed that Russia “sincerely tried to solve the problem of Donbas with peaceful means”.
He also predicted any reconciliation with Ukraine. “I think reconciliation is inevitable,” Putin said without describing in detail how this could happen in the middle of the ongoing hostility.
Green: Russia ignored us a truce plan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenky said in response to Russian news sending that the ceasefire could begin “from today” if Moscow was serious.
Together with Czech President Petr Pavel in Kiev, Zelsky noted that Russia ignored the proposal for a ceasefire supported by the US for almost two months.
“Putin is very eager to demonstrate your tanks at the show (victory day),” he said Zelena. “But he should think about ending his war.”
He rejected the Moscow offer of a 72 -hour ceasefire on the day of victory as honest and quoted hundreds of attacks during previous short -term revenues, such as the one that was declared Easter.
