Russian drones “repeatedly” violated the Polish air space after crossing from neighboring Ukraine, which made the country to scratch military nozzles, closed the main airport in their capital and urged the inhabitants to stay at home, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
“During today’s attack by the Russian Federation focused on targets in Ukraine, our airy space was repeatedly violated by drones,” said AFP Polish operational command as a statement on social media.
“We emphasize that the military operation is still ongoing and referring to everyone to stay at home,” Bloomberg quoted the army, adding that “Podlaskia, Masovian and Lublin Regions bordering Ukraine and Belarus.”
The Federal Air Administration in the Airmen announcement said that the main airport Chopin Warsaw was closed.
Bloomberg said that the closure was caused by “unplanned military activity related to the provision of State Security”.
In an earlier statement, the Polish army stated: “
Ongoing operation
The Polish army soon stated on Wednesday that operations are taking place to “identify and neutralize these objects”. The weapons were used to “drone type objects” and forces try to find debris.
Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamys said that the Polish Air Force used weapons against enemy objects that entered the Polish airspace.
“The aircraft used weapons against enemy objects. We are in constant contact with the command of NATO,” wrote Kosiniak-Kamysz on X.
Why Poland?
Poland sits on the eastern side of NATO, bordering Belarus, a key ally of Russia and a war destroyed by Ukraine.
The attack comes the day after the newly elected Polish nationalist President Karol Nawrocki warned that Russian leader Vladimir Putin was ready to attack more countries after his war in Ukraine.
“We do not believe the good intentions of Vladimir Putin,” Nawrocki told journalists at a press conference in Helsinki on Tuesday.
“We believe that Vladimir Putin is also ready to attack other countries,” he said.
Poland also organizes more than a million Ukrainian refugees and is a key transport point for Western humanitarian and military assistance for the war destroyed country, AFP said.
Within three and a half years, Russian drones and missiles went to the airspace of NATO, Lithuania, Poland and Romania several times.
At the beginning of August Warsaw said the Russian military drone flew into its airspace and exploded on agricultural land in eastern Poland.
