On Monday (September 15), the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the supersonic rocket bombers Tu-22M3 guarded the military drills on the ongoing common Russian-Belarus after neutral waters in the Barents Sea as part of the ongoing common Russian-belarus. The flights lasted four hours and presented the coordination of Moscow and Minsk in large exercises intended to improve the readiness of the fight.
Drills, which began on September 12, are officially described as defensive exercises aimed at preparing on a potential attack on Russia or Belarus. Both countries have repeatedly stated that they do not have intentions to attack NATO members.
Rocket tests and naval
During the exercise Russia performed several high -ranking weapons tests:
According to Interfax, a caliber rocket from the Arkhangelska nuclear submarine was released at a designated goal in the Barents Sea from underwater position.
On Sunday, Russia fired a Hypersonic Zircon (Tsirkon) from the Admiral Golovko Northern Fleet and hit the destination in a direct strike.
Sukhoi Su-34 Supersonic Fighter-Bombers carried out air strikes and was also involved in anti-Ponymish aircraft with long reach.
The zircon rocket, which is capable of flying at nine times higher sound speed with a range of over 1,000 km, is designed to hit the targets of the sea and the land.
International observers
At least two American military officers were in Belarus to observe exercises, along with Russian officials, including Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov. Other international participants include representatives of NATO members of Turkey and Hungary, as well as China, Ethiopia and Indonesia.
Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenikov personally welcomed US officers and said, “We’ll show what is interesting for you. Whatever you want. You can go there and see, talk to people.”
Boundary tension
Drills have increased regional safety concerns. Poland temporarily closed its border with Belarus as a preventive measure after Russian development in Polish territory 9.-10. September. The closure disrupted one of the main Chinese land trade to Europe.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski informed the Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi about the closure of borders and stressed that this step is powered by security concerns rather than commercial disputes. “Maneuvers with a very aggressive scenario are currently taking place in Belarus,” said a spokesman for the Polish Foreign Ministry Pawel Wonski, emphasizing the ongoing exhibition of the “hybrid war” along the Polish Eastern border.
Strategic and geopolitical context
Drills are underlined by Belarus near the alliance with Russia. President Alexander Lukashenko allowed the Russian forces to use Belarusian territory to enter Ukraine in February 2022.
Meanwhile, China maintained strong ties with Moscow despite international criticism. Beijing continues to require peaceful conversations and respect for territorial integrity, but never condemned the actions of Russia, even strengthen trade and military cooperation.
Regional consequences
Exercise in combination with increased boundaries underlines tensions in Eastern Europe because the war in Ukraine is approaching its fourth year. NATO’s “Eastern Sentry” operation was activated after the Russian getting up to Poland.
