
A Russian man has reportedly been jailed for four years for allegedly assaulting a woman. The incident took place in January this year in Britain.
The case unexpectedly involved the son of US President Donald Trump, Barron Trump, who told British police he witnessed the attack during a video call last year.

According to CNN, 22-year-old Matvei Rumiantsev was sentenced at London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday.
In January, Rumiantsev was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, British news agency PA Media reported.
He was also found guilty of obstruction of justice, a charge related to a letter Rumiantsev wrote to a woman from prison after the attack, asking her to drop the charges.

Action was taken against Rumiantsev after Donald Trump’s son told British police he saw a woman being beaten during a video call.
Barron Trump’s son called British police from the US after he saw the victim being assaulted by Matvei Rumiantsev on a FaceTime call, the SUN reported.
what exactly happened
According to the SUN, Snaresbrook Crown Court was told that Barron called the woman, who jurors heard was friends with the president’s son, in the early hours of January 18.
During the assault, Rumiantsev, who lived in Canary Wharf, east London, allegedly answered a FaceTime call on her phone and turned the camera to show her crying on the floor.

What did Baron Trump see on the video call?
According to the report, Barron called police in London and told them he saw 23-year-old Rumiantsev grab the woman by her hair and knock her to the floor.
The victim gave evidence and said: “He (Barron Trump) helped save my life. That call was like a sign from God at that moment.”
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) later released a transcript of the call in which the American alerted police to the crime.

Barron said, “Oh, I’m calling from the US, I just got a call from a girl, you know, she’s beat up. It happened about eight minutes ago. I just figured out how and how to call someone. Uh, uh, it’s really urgent.”
Asked by the operator how he knew the woman, Trump replied: “I don’t think those details matter, she’s beaten up, but okay, I’ve also met her on social media, I don’t think it matters.

At one point, a London police 999 operator told Trump he was refusing to answer questions. The operator said, “Can you stop being rude and actually answer my questions?”
A few months later, in May 2025, Trump told police in an email that what he saw was “really very brief, but really overwhelming.”

According to the BBC, the 19-year-old said his video call with the woman was intercepted by a “shirtless man with dark hair”.
That look lasted “maybe one second” before the camera panned to “the victim was hit while crying,” he told police, adding, “This whole interaction lasted five to seven seconds.”
Rumiantsev imprisoned for 4 years | The case so far
In January, Rumiantsev appeared in court charged with two counts of rape, assault by beating and intentional strangulation.
But a jury found him not guilty of all but two counts – assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice, the SUN reported.

Rumiantsev has now been jailed for four years – two years for assault and two years for obstructing justice – to serve.
According to the BBC, prosecutors said Rumiantsev was jealous of the woman’s friendship with Trump. The prosecution said he assaulted the woman on January 18, 2025, including punching her in the face.
What did the defendant say to the court?
Asked during the inquest whether he was jealous of the men the victim could talk to, Rumiantsev said: “I was really unhappy that she (Trump) was leading him on, frankly.”
Judge Bennathan KC told Rumiantsev the trial was about whether he “assaulted her or not”.

Rumiantsev replied: “I am portrayed as a jealous person who can lose his temper because of jealousy. I just want to make it clear that her behavior towards him was wrong and it was not fair.”
He added: “I was jealous to a degree.”
