Russia expressed concern over the US attacks and condemned what it called an “act of armed aggression” against Venezuela.
“This morning, the United States committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This is deeply disturbing and condemnable,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Saturday, AFP reported.
“Ideological hostility won out over business pragmatism,” he added.

“In the current situation, it is important … to prevent further escalation and focus on finding a way out of the situation through dialogue,” the ministry said in a statement.
The bombings in Venezuela occurred at a time when the US military was targeting ships allegedly smuggling drugs. On Friday, Venezuela said it was open to negotiations on an anti-drug deal with the US.
The US is attacking Venezuela
In the early hours of Saturday, the US launched a “massive strike against” Venezuela, capturing its president, Nicolás Maduro, along with his wife – who were flown out of the country, Trump said.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed the operation was carried out in coordination with US law enforcement.
“The United States of America has successfully conducted a massive strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro, who has been captured and taken out of the country along with his wife,” Trump wrote.
In addition to Russia, several other world leaders reacted strongly to the “major strike” carried out by the US.
The Cuban president condemns the attack
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez strongly condemned the US attack on social media, calling it a “criminal attack” against Venezuela and calling on the international community to respond quickly.
