American vice president JD Vance said Russia has made “significant concessions” in interviews to end his war with Ukraine. However, he did not rule out to deposit more sanctions on the Kremlin pressure to peace.
Vance, when he spoke of “Meet the Press with the Press with Kristen Welker,” he said that the Russians were “flexible” on some of his requirements. “I think the Russians for the first time in three and a half years of this conflict first made President Trump,” he said on Sunday in the comments broadcast.
The US Vice President said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made several concessions, including that Ukraine will receive security guarantees that protect against future Russian aggression.
“They acknowledged that they would not be able to install the puppet regime in Kiev. This was, of course, the main demand at the beginning. And what is important, they acknowledged that there would be a security guarantee for the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Vance said.
Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Putin’s three requirements
In return for the end of Russian attacks, Putin demands that Ukraine give up the whole area of the Eastern Donbas, give up the ambition to join NATO, remain neutral and maintain western units outside the country, sources said last week to Reuters.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday that a group of nations, including members of the UN Security Council, should be the guarantor of Ukraine’s security.
On Friday, President Donald Trump renewed the threat to imposing sanctions on Russia, unless there was any progress on peace settlement in Ukraine in two weeks, which showed frustration in Moscow after his meeting with Putin in Alaska.
Vance said that sanctions would be considered a case by a case and acknowledge that new sanctions are unlikely to lift Russia to agree to the ceasefire with Ukraine.
Vance pointed to Trump’s announcement this month by another 25% tariff to Indian goods as a punishment for purchases of Russian oil of the new Delhi as a kind of economic leverage that would be used in efforts.
“He tried to clarify that Russia could be re -captured into the world economy if they stop killing, but will continue to isolate if they do not stop killing,” Vance said.
