Manchester manager United Ruben Amorim criticized the mentality of his party after throwing a lead to 1-1 with Fulham in Craven Cottage on Sunday and blaming the shift to the defensive mode for drained points.
United took the lead when Rodrigo Muniz unintentionally diverted the ball into his own network, but their advantage lasted less than two minutes, because Fulham substitute Emile Smith Rowe equalized his first touch of the game.
For Amorim it was a frustrating resultwho felt his players left their offensive principles as soon as they went forward.
“We scored the target and then forgot how we play,” Amorim BBC said. “We want to win so badly and that’s a good feeling that we scored a goal and everyone on the pitch thought,“ Let’s keep the benefits and try to win the game.
United started the match clearly, with Matheus Cunha twice denied inside the opening ten minutes – once a post and again a sharp Bernd Leno Save. The amorim side looked fluid in the attack, even without Benjama’s XI, and Bruno Fernandes found a space that would dictate the game when United held. Their shape of the middle field, however, remained fragile from ownership and Casemiro and Fernandes remained exposed.
This imbalance proved to be expensive. Fernandes’ deeper roles required by Cuny and Bryan Mbeum’s summer arrivals left United more openly defensively, and Fulham has repeatedly used gaps.
Captain United endured a heavy evening and lacked the first half of the punishment that could double the advantage of his team. After the VAR review, Fernandes switched over the attachment – his fifth lady from the place from the entrance to the Premier League in 2020.
“I think he’s not used to missing punishments,” Amorim Sky Sports said. “He knows the importance that this moment can have a huge impact on the team. During the game he was not happy because he was not involved and has so much responsibility and I think there is no punishment that is huge for us.”
Although he was five points after two Premier League matches and the end leader of Arsenal, Amorim hit a determined remark about United’s progress.
“The most important thing is that they worked really hard during the week. Today we worked really hard and we would improve,” he said. “Players know they play in a club where they have to be better. I’m sure we’ll get many wins.”
For the team that ended last season, there are signs of improvement – but defensive lunges and lack of calm after the leadership continues to persecute Amorim’s Manchester United.
