In a move expected to excite rubber farmers in central Kerala and settler farming communities in the north ahead of local body elections, the state cabinet on Wednesday increased the support price of rubber provided to farmers from ₹180 to ₹200 per kg. The revised prices will be effective from November 1, Kerala Piravi Day.
The rubber subsidy was last revised in 2024 when the government raised it from ₹170 to ₹180 after three years.
During a period that has seen a lack of global production and a surge in domestic demand, an increase in subsidies could lead to an increase in output that would surpass last year’s levels. Kerala accounts for more than 80% of the country’s total production.
