RTA suspends permits for 28 private buses

The Ernakulam Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has suspended permits for 28 private buses operating from different parts of the city to Kakkanad.

The RTA action led by the District Collector comes after a lightning strike in November 2025. Allegations against the affected bus operators include violation of permit regulations, going on strike without notice and leaving passengers stranded at various places.

The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has submitted a recommendation to the RTA to suspend their permits following the lightning strike. The strike was reportedly called after a dispute with MVD officials who were deployed on enforcement duty.
