The High Court in Kerala ordered the regional transport office (RTA) to take effective steps to prevent ruthless driving by private buses in Kochi, including an increase in the time gap between buses that operate on the same routes.
Mulled’s transport department increased the time abyss between buses on the same routes in urban areas to at least five minutes and in rural areas to 10 minutes to prevent disproportionate competition and subsequent ruthless driving, which often led to accidents.
The High Court expressed anxiety at the session of the RTA, which has not yet been convened, although on August 8, it ordered that it would convene it within fourteen days. The government’s prosecutor said the meeting was now scheduled for 29 September.
Traffic police
The court also stated that the traffic police staff could be deployed at the intersections of arterial sections such as Banerjee Road-Palarivattom and Pallimukku-Vyttila instead of relying on signal lights at intersections to reduce traffic overload.
With Walkie-Tallkies, the staff could communicate with each other and ensure better traffic management. In this respect, the Amicus Curiae report was presented to the Chief of the District Police (Kochi City). The court stated that police staff could help streamline the flow of traffic, depending on the growth of different directions.
