The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be more expensive for fans as the Boston host committee has announced a dedicated bus service to and from Gillette Stadium at a cost of Rs 8,840.90 for a round trip. The service, called Boston Stadium Express, will be operated in partnership with Yankee Line and is expected to serve up to 10,000 fans per game.
The move comes amid concerns over rising costs and availability issues surrounding the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup 2026.
“Providing fans with clear, reliable transportation is critical to ensuring a positive tournament experience,” said Mike Loynd, president of the Boston 26 Host Committee. “Boston Stadium Express provides a direct, affordable and convenient option for fans while complementing the broader public transportation network. It’s about giving fans alternatives to driving and making it as easy as possible to get to and from games.”
INCREASING COSTS AROUND MS EXPERIENCES
The service will work in partnership with more than 100 hotel properties throughout Greater Boston and nearby regions, offering direct connections from hotels to the stadium. Buses start leaving three hours before kick-off, return services start 30 minutes after the end of the matches.
“Boston Stadium Express tickets are priced at Rs 8,840.90 for a return journey and must be booked in advance,” the statement added. “Sales begin today and capacity is limited. Tickets can only be purchased by fans who hold a valid ticket to a 2026 FIFA World Cup match in Boston on the same day and proof will be required to board.”
The development comes at a sensitive time for FIFA, which has promoted the expanded tournament as a celebration of accessibility and global inclusion, even as the cost of attending matches continues to rise.
The Boston Stadium Express announcement follows reports that FIFA has introduced higher-priced ticket categories for the tournament, along with seat allocation adjustments for some tickets already purchased. This development has contributed to ongoing debates about affordability for fans attending the competition.
