Kerala Sasthra Sahithy Parishath (KSSP) was looking for the intervention of the main Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Minister of Higher Education, R. Bindu to introduce a joint curriculum about Keral’s studies at universities.
In a memorandum jointly published by the Secretary General of the KSSP PV Division and President of TK Meerabai, the organization opposed the proposed plan to prepare a common curriculum at all universities based on a book published by the Council for Higher Education in Kerala (KSHEC).
The KSSP outlined its requirements and declared its opposition to a uniform curriculum or textbook approach for keral studies. Such an attitude could undermine academic autonomy and reduce the ability of universities to reflect regional, cultural and historical diversity of their curriculum.
He also stressed that the curriculum should go beyond the monitoring of the state’s conventional range from its roots of prehistoric hunters with Renaissance movements and must include the narration of progressive democratic movements, the communist movement and the formation of modern Kerala.
Moving to a rope in a private company to publish the textbook also came for criticism. The organization described the decision as a violation of established academic procedures and demanded the restoration of proper academic processes concerning study and academic councils.
The KSSP, which has already been cited that most universities have already developed the content of Kerala Studies, urged the government to enable the legal authorities of universities to improve these modules independently after consulting KSHEC to store centrally produced content.
