Virender Sehwag has questioned Riyan Parag’s captaincy after RR’s loss to SRH on Saturday, April 26, and said the team management will have to introspect and decide if he is the right choice to lead the side. Then came Sehwag’s criticism RR could not defend 228 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadiumwith SRH chasing the target with nine balls to spare.

Sehwag said Parago’s tactical decisions were the main problem and pointed to the limited use of leading spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Bishnoi, who bowled just one over each. He also said that Parago’s poor run with the bat this season could affect the way he leads the team.
Parag took eight bowling options during the innings, including himself, but Sehwag felt RR did not give their main bowlers enough time to recover from the expensive first overs. Jadeja conceded 11 runs in his only over, while Bishnoi went for 16. Sehwag said both bowlers should have been given another over and that Parag would have to think about his decisions as captain.
“Ravi Bishnoi bowled one and Ravindra Jadeja also bowled just one. Neither of them are bad. They didn’t get a chance to bounce back after their first over. Sometimes they hit but you should at least try them for a second. Who will get you wickets if not them? Part-timers will only come to think how Rigyan can get past his captaincy. We have to wonder if he is the right captain for them,” said Virender Sehwag.
PARAG’S MATCH WITH NEPAL
Parag’s struggles with the bat continued against SRH as he was dismissed for seven off nine balls. In the IPL 2026 season, the RR skipper has scored 88 runs from eight matches at a strike rate of 112.82 and an average of 12.57. Sehwag said that if the captain doesn’t score, it affects the decision making on the field.
“If I am the captain and I don’t score runs, it will affect my captaincy 100 percent. I will think about my runs and also think that Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 100 runs in 36 balls and even though I am senior and experienced, why am I not scoring like that?” said Sehwag.
RR now play their next match against undefeated PBKS on Tuesday 28th April.
