RPF rescues two teenagers from Nagaland near Katpadi

Two 17-year-old boys from Nagaland were rescued by the Railway Protection Unit (Katpadi) at Ammor village on Sunday.

Police said the rescued boys were identified as T. Nagampha and A. Tsemtun Kanyak. The teenagers were stranded in a remote forest area near the railway line between Walajah Road and Mukundarayapuram railway stations after midnight.

A railway patrol team comprising Assistant Sub-Inspector PR Murali and Senior Constable G Gopalakrishnan found the teenager. “We received a tip-off from our counterpart in Nagaland that two teenagers had gone missing from their homes and were heading to Kerala. Despite heavy rain, our patrol team was searching for the boys in the area,” said K. Prabhu, Inspector, RPF (Katpadi).

Police said both the boys had left their homes and were looking for work in Keralam. The boys initially traveled by train and reportedly alighted at Samalkot railway station near Kakinada in AP to attend nature’s call.

They briefly got off at Samalkot station and before they could get on again the train left. They subsequently purchased fresh tickets and boarded the next train, the Gurudev Express, bound for Thiruvananthapuram.

However, overcome with anxiety, the boys reached near Katpadi and were walking aimlessly when a patrol team found them.

After the rescue, the boys were provided with suitable clothing, food and necessary medical assistance. They were found to be in good health. Necessary measures have also been initiated for their safe reunification with their families. After informing the Child Protection Committee, the boys were handed over to the Safe Care Child Helpline at the Collectorate.
