In an effort to facilitate those who are eligible to demand benefits from government schemes, Rotary Bangalore Midtown (RBM) has taken over an initiative called “Opportunity Windows” to help 50,000 disadvantaged individuals access to vital social care programs. Thousands of the city were beneficial and have so far been transferred to the 4.8 GBP Crore directly to its accounts from various government systems supported by the campaign launched in October 2024.
Palani Loganathan, President of Rotary Bangalore Midtown, told Hindu that RBM has so far registered 27,000 recipients and more than 4 Crore was transferred directly to bank accounts within various government systems.
Lack of education and awareness
Loganathan said that, despite the introduction of thousands of government programs, lack of education and awareness, it will continue to prevent the poorest from claiming their legitimate benefits.
To be solved, RBM has established Helpdesks in places visited, such as government hospitals and primary health centers. Helpdesk is already functional in Vani Vilas Hospital Hospital, with expansion plans for St. John’s Medical College Hospital, Sri Jayadev Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Research, in Bommasandra, Anecal and other areas with a high population of building and industrial workers.
These assistance are occupied by representatives of two private companies hired RBM. The registration of each recipient for the relevant social security systems costs 100 GBP and it carries RBM.
RBM committed 50 lakh for this initiative. Targeted schemes include Ayushman Bharat, E-Shram card, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandan Yojan, PM Svanidhi, widow’s pension and other pension schemes, in addition to many state government schemes.
“This project has received a good reaction from vulnerable communities and donors. We are trying to create a social return on investment exceeding 50 crore by helping people gain people deserving,” Loganathan said.
