British adventurer Ross Edgley made history first to swim all over Iceland and finished 1,000 miles’ journey during four exhausting months.
During his ultramarathon swimming, he faced 39 -year -olds from Cheshire faced towering wool, freezing waters and even curious killers. He started and ended the call in Reykjavik, set out on May 17th and returned on Monday at 17:09 in the UK. Doušek from the Viking Horn celebrated at the finish line.
“That was the hardest and most ambitious challenge I’ve ever tried,” Ross said.
“Iceland has provided an incredible opportunity to test my physical and mental limits – the country has provided some crazy experiences that I will never forget.”
Ross is not alien to extreme endurance events. In 2018, he became the first person to swim after the UK-1 780 Mil-and also holds the world record of Guinness for swimming 317 miles along the Canadian Yukon River.
How did Ross prepare for swimming?
But the punishment of Icelandic cold pushed him on new limits. Ross, an average of 30 km (18 million) a day, consumed up to 15,000 calories a day – powered by pasta and Icelandic liquorice – to maintain its energy.
“The body just takes a consistent shoe,” Sky News said.
“You are just trying to keep it in some shape, control the inevitable disintegration of your body, hoping to go back to Reykjavik.”
Hard salt water caused parts of his tongue to fall, but he continued, partly inspired by Icelandic wildlife, especially whales and seals. To prepare, he gained about 10-15 kilograms of body fat for isolation and mimiced fat that helps to survive the sea animals in the ice sea.
“If you look at what kinds of animals they survive in Iceland, there’s a idea of a marine bubber. You want isolation, you want body fat.”
It is remarkable that Ross even collected environmental DNA and microplastic samples during swimming and cooperated with scientists to help monitor the health of the ocean.
His efforts earned praise by Chris Hemsworth, the star of Thor.
The actor said, “Ross breaks the form and redefines endurance sport and adventure.
And with that man nicknamed “British Thor” carved his own place in the legends of the North.
