Romario Shepherd on Heroic 53 vs CSK: Hard to sit and watch others win

All-Rounder Romario Shepherd West Indies played his fourth match in the Premier League (IPL) 2025, when Royal Challengers Bengalur (RCB) locked corners with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengalur. But it was the first time he got a chance for the bat, and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Batting on No. 7, Shepherd hit Common second fastest fifty in IPL history Of 14 balls, together with KL Rahul (2018) and Pat Cummins (2022). Four four and six six on his way to the undefeated 53 out of 14 balls hit the powers. Shepherd said he was anxiously waiting for his opportunity to count.

“It was hard, you know, sitting there and watching the other players win. Not because I didn’t want them to win, but because I wanted them to go and perform there,” Shepherd said at a press conference after the match.

“Today, this opportunity came and I was just trying to make the most of the best. I didn’t focus on the score of 53 out of 14 balls – I just wanted to help the team to complete the strong and move the momentum back in our favor,” Shepherd said.

When Shepherd came, RCB was somewhat struggling with his score of 157 in five at 17.4 overs. But Shepherd’s Blitz meant that the hosts raced at five to five and scored 56 runs from the last 14 balls.

“At one point they let the upper hand head to the last two or three crossed. But when I went to the fold, I had a good feeling about what they were trying to mix. I went ready and Timmy (Tim David) reminded me to hold my shape a little because the ball took on the goal.

Shepherd won the Match Award prize when RCB won two runs to get the best place in the point table. Their next match is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) 9.
