Former India captain Rohit Sharma unveiled the national team’s new T20I jersey on Wednesday during the innings break of the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. He was joined on stage by Tilak Varma for the presentation, where BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and Adidas representatives formally handed over the World Cup jerseys to the duo.
The unveiling, held under lights at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium, offered fans a first look at the kit India will wear as hosts of the next edition of the T20 World Cup. The jersey features a dark blue base with bright orange panels on the sides. In a key design shift, the tricolor has moved to the collar, while vertical blue stripes run across the front to add texture.
“It’s been a long journey. We won our first World Cup in 2007 and had to wait over 15 years to win another. It’s been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs, but it was great to lift the trophy again. Now that the World Cup is in India, it’s going to be an exciting tournament. My best wishes are there and I’m always behind the team and I’ll be sure to support them.” Rohit at the jersey presentation ceremony during the mid-innings break.
Rohit, who led India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024, was named earlier tournament ambassador for 2026which will be held in India and Sri Lanka.
India’s current T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav did not attend the ceremony as he is in Lucknow representing Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with matches scheduled on either side of the event. Vice-captain Shubman Gill, who is recovering from a neck injury, continues his rehabilitation at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.
