He was recently seen walking away with the T20 World Cup trophy during India’s tournament opener against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was the same award he lifted in 2024 after leading India to a historic triumph over South Africa in Barbados. This victory ended the team’s 11-year long ICC trophy drought.

For many fans, the idea of Rohit being present in the next India vs Pakistan chapter carries its own nostalgia. He played this rivalry for the last time was during the Champions Trophy in 2025when India beat Pakistan in a match highlighted by Virat Kohli’s special century.

The airport clip doesn’t confirm Rohit’s goal, but that hardly stopped the buzz ahead of cricket’s biggest night.

WHY IS THIS IND VS PAK MATCH SO IMPORTANT?

India vs Pakistan is back, as always, cutting through all the boycott noise and politics to become the highlight of the T20 World Cup.

Going into Sunday’s encounter in Colombo, both teams are unbeaten and tied on four points. India lead Group A with a stronger net pace, while Pakistan are a close second. With a Super Eight berth and top spot up for grabs, the stakes are already sky high.

India started their campaign with a 29-run win over USA under captain Suryakumar Yadav before crushing Namibia by 93 runs. Meanwhile, Pakistan outclassed the Netherlands in their opening match before comfortably defeating the USA, starring Sahibzada Farhan.

Now all roads lead to Colombo where the rivalry takes center stage once again.

India start as favourites, driven by form, balance and recent dominance in this match. The T20 World Cup numbers only add to the case. India have beaten Pakistan seven times in their eight encounters on this stage so far, so it’s a familiar script that Pakistan will be desperate to rewrite.
