Rohit Sharma in World Cup 2027? Gavaskar explains how Guwahati 101 helps his case

In an exclusive interaction with India Today, former Indian captain and cricket analyst Sunil Gavaskar analyzed India’s historic 400-run chase against West Indies in Guwahati.

One of the biggest takeaways from the interview was Gavaskar’s take on Rohit Sharma’s chances of making India’s 2027 ODI World Cup plans a reality. He said Rohit’s century against the West Indies did “absolutely no harm” to his chances, while pointing to his hundred at Lord’s and the approach he has taken since the 2023 World Cup.

Describing Rohit as a “completely selfless cricketer”, Gavaskar said the former India captain was trying to give the team a quick start by taking risks in the first 10 overs. He added that if Rohit continues to bat the way he has at Lord’s and against the West Indies, he can produce more big hundreds and partnerships for India.
