Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli reunited ahead of West Indies ODI series

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were back in India colors as the two senior batsmen reunited during the team’s first training session ahead of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The much-awaited reunion came in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, September 24, when the duo went to work at the Greenfield International Stadium ahead of the series opener on Sunday.

Kohli and Rohit last featured together for India during the ODI tour of England in July. Their last ODI appearance came in the third match of this series at Lord’s on July 14, marking the return of the two veterans to the nets together after more than two months. Both have remained away from international cricket since the England series and their next assignment now comes against the West Indies.

ROHITE, KOHLI IN THE FIRST FIRST PRACTICE

According to The Indian Express, the first session provided a first glimpse of the two batsmen preparing for the next ODI campaign. Kohli looked sharp during his stint in the nets, attacking the bowling and producing a series of signature shots. At one point he stepped up to hit Kuldeep Yadav over mid-wicket before blasting a straight-drive six off Naman Dhir.

Rohit, meanwhile, was batting in the second group after a brief interruption due to rain. He worked on his stroke play and asked Prasidh Krishna to dive, seemingly preparing himself for the conditions and the pace threat he could face against the West Indies.

The Indian team’s practice session was scheduled from around 17:30 to 20:30 IST, with the team using it to acclimatize to the conditions ahead of the opening match. Rohit and Kohli reached Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday and joined captain Shubman Gill and the rest of the ODI squad.

The West Indies series will begin on September 27 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The second ODI will be played in Guwahati on September 30, while the third and final match is scheduled for October 3 in New Chandigarh.

For Rohit and Kohli, the series marks another chapter in their ongoing ODI careers. With both players now back in the squad, their presence adds considerable experience to the Shubman Gill-led squad as India progress towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.
